PIERRE MARINO-SMETTE (Brussels, Belgium)
For this project, ''IT'S GOTTA BE DA SHOES'' - Marino-Smette asked sneaker fans and/or collectors to pose wearing their favorite pair. Each person photographed was also interviewed during the shooting to create a relaxed environment and especially, to learn more about their relationship with their shoes. At the end of each interview the issue of fetishism was addressed. A majority of those interviewed did not consider themselves fetishists, but agreed that their passion might have seemed extraordinary. And, with fetishism defined as « excessive admiration for something », they all agreed to have been close to that definition. It is this thin line that Marino-Smette believes exists between the lambda collectors and the fetishist.
