Founded in May 2013, Galerie d'Art LSB is a contemporary art gallery dedicated to exhibiting the work of emerging and established artists, both local and international, as well as raising funds for local and international communities. With its objective to encourage new practices and interdisciplinary art, the gallery offers two distinct exhibition areas: a large contemporary space on the lobby level of 6750 av de l'Esplanade, (formerly Esplanade Loft Project/ELP) and an 650 sq. ft. private loft gallery on the building's 3rd floor. Projects and proposals may be submitted from all visual art practices, including contemporary media, and will be considered in terms of their integration into one or both of the two exhibition spaces. The gallery encourages exhibition themes which engage contemporary dialogue in relation to each of the gallery spaces.
Since it's inception the gallery has explored, participated in and enhanced the cultural life of the energetic Mile Ex neighbourhood by showcasing visual and other art practices at the local, national and international level. The lobby gallery welcomes art exhibitions, film screenings, design events, sound and performance art, conferences and fundraising events. The 3rd floor loft gallery provides the ideal setting for private showings, solo or group exhibitions, quiet performances, lectures, workshops and fundraising events. in addition it functions as a studio and sales office for the various photographic projects of the curator and artists represented by the gallery.
Gallery owner, Lori Segall Burnett, is extensively involved in international volunteer programs in India, Africa, Asia and South America. In addition to the knowledge and experience she has gained through her travels, her professional background as a social worker in Montreal's public school system from 1980 to 2000 honed her natural skills in interpersonal and group dynamics and sensitized her to a wide variety of socio-economic issues, cultures and lifestyles. Throughout her travel and work experience she has and continues to be struck by the universality of human emotion, and the commonality of hopes, dreams and desires shared by all individuals. Her extensive involvement with families and communities here and abroad has imbued her with a sensitivity that manifests in her photography. Through the gallery she aims to increase social and cultural awareness and to raise funds for local and other communities in need around the world.
